State agency coming to remove toxic mess left by Borel Fire
It was the largest wildland fire in Kern County history. And on Monday, the huge job of cleaning up after the Borel Fire begins in earnest. That’s when the California Department of Toxic Substances Control will start Phase 1, the cleanup of scores of residential properties destroyed in the fire, a painstaking process expected to take four weeks to complete.
