California’s Proposition 12 will be heard by Supreme Court on Oct. 11

The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in National Pork Producers Council v Karen Ross on Oct. 11. The court on March 28 granted the writ of certiorari to put California Proposition 12 on its docket. At issue is whether the sweeping proposition passed by voters in 2018 can block sales in California of particular poultry and pork products from areas that don’t adhere to the state’s animal housing standards. The often-reversed Ninth U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Prop 12, but the Pork Producers claim it violates the Interstate Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
