California health experts not overly worried by the summer COVID-19 case bump

The latest COVID-19 numbers are out and they do show a slight increase in cases over the last few months. But health experts aren’t overly worried. The state’s COVID-19 dashboard shows a positivity rate of 15.6% as of Aug. 13. That’s up from 5.6% on July 12. Dr. Erica Pan, the state epidemiologist with the California Department of Public Health, said it’s not a huge concern, and it’s similar to what we experienced after the omicron variant surfaced.
