Op-Ed: California rejects federal water proposal, lays out its vision for protecting endangered species and meeting state water needs

Op-Ed:  Wade Crowfoot, California Secretary for Natural Resources, and Jared Blumenfeld, California Secretary for Environmental Protection, write that federal assessments of the Delta and water management are “insufficient” to protect endangered fish. “Those of us who are responsible … decided we could no longer rely on the federal process,” which, they note, is a “departure from past practice.” Now, they write “the state needs to protect California’s interests and values” by drawing on “a decade of science to strengthen safeguards for fish and improve real-time management” of the State Water Project.
