For more than 28 years, CAPS has sponsored State Scientist Day on the west steps of the State Capitol. This event showcases the important work performed by state scientists to protect public health, the environment, and California’s natural resources.
Each year, thousands of students from area grade schools come to the State Capitol for a fun-filled field trip to enjoy State Scientist Day. State scientists don’t disappoint, with a myriad of kid-friendly, hands-on displays showcasing the essential and fascinating work of state scientists. CAPS leaders and staff organize this event and typically invite state lawmakers and other public officials to participate in the event. It’s an important part of promoting state scientists with key decision makers and best of all, lots of fun for everyone involved!
The following departments have historically participated in State Scientist Day: Fish and Wildlife – Toxic Substances Control – Public Health – Conservation – CalFire – Pesticide Regulation – Food and Agriculture – Parks – CalRecycle – State Lands Commission – Air Resources Board – Water Board – Water Resources – Coastal Commission – CalEMA – and OEHHA.
